Manny Pacquiao's move up from super featherweight coincided with his ascension to another career peak Saturday night.

Fans at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and a HBO Pay-Per-View audience saw Pacquiao display his sensational hand speed, skillful movement and punishing power to dethrone David Diaz for the WBC lightweight title.

Looking just as fast and strong as always in his first fight at 135 pounds, Pacquiao piled up points with pinpoint punching precision to stop Diaz at 2:24 of the ninth round and become the first fighter from the Phillipines to win world titles in four different weight classes.

Against Diaz, who was defending for the first time since beating Mexican legend Erik Morales in his first title defense, Pacquiao, a former world champion at flyweight (112), featherweight (122) and super featherweight (130), proved to be in a class of his own.

They said he could not get any bigger, but Manny Pacquiao (43-3-2, 33KOs) is on top of the world after knocking out Erik Morales (48-5, 24KOs) in three rounds in a short, but brutal bout.

The Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada was an absolute zoo on Saturday night, as thousands of Mexican and Filipino fans sold out the building to catch third bout of a rivalry that captured the attention of boxing fans all over the world.

The fight started slow in the first round, but they began to throw plenty of leather in the second round. After the two fighters began to exchange huge punches in the second, Morales went down from a big right hand while he left himself open.

They went to war in the final seconds of round two to make the entire arena erupt with applause.

The championship rounds began with an emphatic tenth round for Manny Pacquiao. He rocked Marquez badly in the first minute and finished the round landing hard, flush left hands. A gallant Marquez held on but the storm was tough to weather.

In the eleventh, Marquez showed he too is a true warrior and refused to fade. However, it was Manny Pacquiao’s defence that underlined the difference between this fight and the last. He blocked many of Marquez’s punches to come back with big shots of his own. In the twelfth and final round Marquez made his last stand showing a ton of heart. He took the final stanza, but it was not enough on FightFan.com’s scorecard which had it 115-112 for Pacquiao.

The official judges scored the bout 115-112, 114-113 for Pacquiao with the third card 115-112 for Marquez. Both fighters felt they won the fight in their post fight interviews, but it was Manny Pacquiao that walked away with the official win in another great fight for boxing.
